Meet Daire Mulgrew

1> What do you do outside of CrossFit for work and for fun?
I work in financial services for Bloomberg Polarlake as a Data analyst, not as boring as it sounds! For fun going to sporting events from GAA to Muay Thai with a few pints of Guinness thrown in.

2> How did you get involved in CrossFit?
One of my mates from University was training in Crossfit Clitheroe in the UK and posted a video of him doing a muscle up, impressed by his new found skills and the shape he was in decided to seek out Crossfit gym in Dublin.

3> When did you first join CFP?
Fundamentals in Oct 2013 and full classes in Nov 2013.

4> What was your first WOD in the classes?
Don’t think it was a hero WOD, a Price brother special which included burpee box jump overs.

5> When did you realise CrossFit was right for you?
Over the years played a lot of team sports, trained Muay Thai and various gym programs but couldn’t believe that a workout under 10 minutes could gas me and push me to the limits so was hooked as early as the fundamentals.

6> What are your short term goals?
Focus on increasing strength in Olympic lifts so looking forward to new Strength and movement classes.

7> Long term goals?
Compete in a scaled competition and move towards RX WODs.

8> What is your greatest accomplishment?
Probably holding on to my youth by the skin of my teeth but Captaining Dungannon Thomas Clarkes to a Tyrone Grade 1 Minor League is to date my greatest sporting achievement.

9> What is your favourite WOD / movement?
Clean is my favourite movement but still a long way to go for it to be as smooth as I would like.

10> What is your least favourite WOD / movement?
Any WOD involving Thrusters!! Snatch most difficult movement to master.

11> Would you recommend CrossFit to your friends and family? What advice would you give them?
Would defo recommend Crossfit to friends and family, have already succeeded to getting my mate Alan Bradley to join CFP and working on my girlfriend to join CFP by showing her my tri-pod handstands in our living room. Advice is to check out the fundamentals to see if it is for you, which I have no doubt it will be.

12> Least favourite and favourite music to WOD to?
For WOD has to be dance/electronic music. Not too keen on rock music for training to.

13> Bonus question: Most memorable or funniest CFP moment?
Only a few weeks ago but I was doing a 36 inch box jump, didn’t think I was capable of it but Dave was persistent in getting me to add another box and it paid off.

Meet Emma Sillman

Emma was chosen by the coaches for her sheer determination and regular attendance.  But mainly because she gave up being a vegetarian when she joined CrossFit – that deserves a mention in our books!

1> What do you do outside of CrossFit for work and for fun?
I work in finance. For fun I do a bit of acting, singing and voice overs.

2> How did you get involved in CrossFit?
My friend does CrossFit in the Isle of Man, and she persuaded me (with her muscles) to do it.

3> When did you first join CFP?
I joined in July 2014.

4> What was your first WOD in the classes?
I can’t remember but I do remember being terrified.

5> When did you realise CrossFit was right for you?
It motivated me from the start and it continues to challenge me to get out of my comfort zone.

6> What are your short term goals?
To be able to do strict press ups, pull ups and all the fun looking gymnastics movements.

7> Long term goals?
To get strong(er) and improve my flexibility. Eventually to do a handstand push-up 🙂

8> What is your greatest accomplishment?
In general surviving the WOD’s many times a week. In life, maybe moving to Ireland on my own. Twice.

9> What is your favourite WOD / movement?
I love overhead squats.

10> What is your least favourite WOD / movement?
Wall climbs and possibly wall ball shots. Somehow the wall knows my weaknesses and isn’t afraid to show them.

11> Would you recommend CrossFit to your friends and family? What advice would you give them?
Absolutely. Not only will you be getting stronger physically but also mentally!

12> Least favourite and favourite music to WOD to?
I prefer heavier music as it gives me a bit more of that needed attitude for the survival of the WOD… Rage against the machine!

13> Bonus question: Most memorable or funniest CFP moment?
The most memorable ones have been those where I was pushed to my limits by a coach and I was able to do something I thought was impossible.
