Meet Kasia Pleban

1> What do you do outside of CrossFit for work and for fun?

I came to Dublin with Google, I started working for them back in Wroclaw, Poland and moved to the Dublin office 2.5 years ago. I manage projects in an operations team working with the biggest retailers in UK and DE.

Another thing, that is both a job and a great passion is a kitesurfing school, that Lukasz and I run together. It’s a small business so we definitely couldn’t make our living with it, but it’s just great to be a part of the kitesurfing world here in Ireland, meet new people and let them find their new passion!

2> How did you get involved in CrossFit?

I wasn’t a sporty person before. I used to swim and was a swimming instructor in high school, but it all ended when I went to college. Then one day I tore my ACL. The surgery actually has changed the approach to my life. I hated the fact I wasn’t able to walk, so I was spending long hours in the gym for the rehab, just to get my knee back to life. In the rehab you push your limits every day, you see how things are changing from one day to another. I think, pushing my own limits became my habit and then I’ve found CrossFit!

3> When did you first join CFP?

I joined when I moved to Dublin, did my fundamentals early spring 2013 and became a member in August 2013, with Ian 🙂

4> What was your first WOD in the classes?

FGB of course! I was jumping on an 8″ box and it looked so high to me!

5> When did you realise CrossFit was right for you?

I just felt it in my blood from the beginning 🙂

6> What are your short term goals?

1. Finish the Open!
2. Do a strict pull-up
3. Keep up my healthy eating style after Kortney’s ECBL Challenge!

7> Long term goals?

1. 50 DUs unbroken
2. BW back squat

8> What is your greatest accomplishment?

Signing up for the Open 🙂 Honestly, I’m very uncomfortable with competing! It was a mental fight, but in these moments I always listen to the inner voice that says: “Get comfortable with uncomfortable” and usually I manage to win 🙂

9> What is your favourite WOD / movement?

This is dynamic. My favourite movement is always the one I’m mostly progressing with, there was even time when I loved rowing! I like KBs and thrusters recently 🙂

10> What is your least favourite WOD / movement?

I hate pull ups because I can’t get them! And I’m a very slow runner 🙁

11> Would you recommend CrossFit to your friends and family? What advice would you give them?

Ha! Actually Lukasz and I recommended CrossFit to one of our best friends and he’s already became a CF coach! CrossFit is great for the body, but I think it’s even greater for the mind. It gives me the balance, allows me to switch off, focus on things that are really important and forget the ones that are redundant. And it allows me to be in the centre of my own life for a few moments 🙂

12> Least favourite and favourite music to WOD to?

My absolutely favourite one is “I’m Shipping Up To Boston” by Dropkick Murphys. I don’t like doing WODs with pop music, it must be laud and aggressive to wake up the beast!

13> Bonus question: Most memorable or funniest CFP moment?

I’ll never forget the team competition in autumn last year! Alan, Stepan and myself we were on one team and we actually won this! I was so surprised, I couldn’t believe it! I also won’t forget the final WOD – push press, rowing, wall balls, it was brutal!
