Congratulations to Kirsty and Jon – these guys are awesome, hardworking and dedicated individuals!

Meet Kirsty

Where are you From?

Originally from Scotland

When you’re not at Perpetua what do you do for work and for fun?

I’m a Veterinary Nurse at The London Animal Hospital. In my other time I mostly catch up with friends and travel

How did you find out about CrossFit?

Some friends of mine who live in the states have been into it for a long time, but I never really knew what it was – so when I moved closer to a gym I thought I’d see what it was about.

How long have you been a member at Perpetua?

Since March this year.

Why do you do CrossFit?

To improve my overall fitness and have fun at the same time.

How often do you train?

Usually 3-4 times a week, sometimes more depending on my schedule.

What are your fitness goals?

I’d like to be able to do a pull-up at some point in the future!

What is your greatest achievement?

Actually making it through Eva (scaled) within the time cap.  When I started CrossFit there is no I could have done it, so I was proud of my effort there.

What or who motivates you?

The community spirit is very motivating – shared pain!

What is your favourite and least favourite WOD or movement?

My least favourite is definitely Assault Bike, that thing is evil.  Favourite is probably box jumps.

Would you recommend CrossFit to your friends and family? What advice would you give them starting out?

Definitely!! I would tell them not to worry about what other people are doing in class, focus on your own work. I’d also tell them what Coach Mario told me when I started – You can’t fail if you turn up.

Favourite cheat meal?

Pizza

Favourite thing about Perpetua?

The people

Bonus question: Most memorable or funniest moment at Perpetua?

The Oly-lifting gangsta rap playlist is always entertaining.

Meet Jon

Where are you from?

Born and grew up in London

When you’re not at Perpetua what do you do for work and for fun?

For work I advise on international tax at a large accountancy firm, boring I know… Outside of work I spend my time playing ice and inline hockey and seeing family/friends

How did you find out about CrossFit?

I used to do PT with Mike when he worked at Fitness First and he introduced me to Perpetua when he moved here

How long have you been a member at Perpetua?

Almost 2 years but wish I’d found it sooner

Why do you do CrossFit?

For fitness, some “friendly” competition and because there’s always something to learn or work on.

How often do you train?

5-6 times a week although sometimes work gets in the way

What are your fitness goals?

In the short term to continue to improve and learn new skills but ultimately to live a healthier life.

What is your greatest achievement?

Probably recently completing a half marathon in a PB time with no training other than Perpetua and hockey

What or who motivates you?

Trying to do the best that I can but it always helps to have someone to compete with.

What is your favourite and least favourite WOD or movement?

Favourite being anything with running or rowing.  Least favourite are handstands – I hate being upside down.

Would you recommend CrossFit to your friends and family? What advice would you give them starting out?

Absolutely! But it’s hard to convince people as CrossFit can be daunting and is more expensive than a conventional gym. Take your time working on fundamentals and your mobility, the rest will come with time.

Favourite cheat meal?

Fish and chips with a tub of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream

Favourite thing about Perpetua?

The commitment that all of the coaches have to helping you improve.

Bonus question: Most memorable or funniest moment at Perpetua?

Hearing everyone cheer me on after beating the time cap to earn an extra 4 minutes of work in 17.3 during the Open this year.
