 In Blog, Dublin
Congratulations to this month’s Perpetua Athlete’s of the Month! Denise and Eugene are both very dedicated member’s, they are always consistent with their training and have been making great progress recently!
Meet Denise

1> Where are you from?

I’m from county Clare originally. It’s a beautiful part of the country and a great place to go for a change from the city

2> When you’re not at Perpetua what do you do for work and for fun?

My days are fun filled looking at numbers and spreadsheets in my job as an accountant!!! Aside from that I like going to gigs, doing a bit of hiking and catching up with friends.

3> How did you find out about CrossFit?

From my sister who started CrossFit when she moved to Melbourne a couple of years ago

4> How long have you been a member at Perpetua?

Just over a year now

5> Why do you do CrossFit?

CrossFit first thing in the morning before work is a great way to kick-start my day

6> How often do you train?

About 4-5 times a week

7>What are your fitness goals?

Fairly simple really, to get through each session in one piece and continue to make progress

8> What is your greatest achievement?

I recently completed the nutrition challenge, which delivered results I was delighted with and I learned so much in the process

9> What or who motivates you?

When I see others in the gym doing stuff I could only dream about plus all the great coaches 🙂

10> What is your favourite and least favourite WOD or movement?

The assault bike for me is the least rewarding part of any WoD and I have a love hate relationship with box jumps!!!

11> Would you recommend CrossFit to your friends and family? What advice would you give them starting out?

Absolutely. My advice would be to focus on your own individual progress and stick at it even when you haven’t got a clue whats going on…it will click eventually…

12> Favourite cheat meal?

Not a meal but I do have a weakness for crisps!

13> Favourite thing about Perpetua?

There are so many great people who are supportive and encouraging

14> Bonus question: Most memorable or funniest moment at Perpetua?

There are plenty but the Open earlier this year stands out as a great experience

Meet Eugene

1> Where are you from?

I was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, but my current home is the North Side.

2> When you’re not at Perpetua what do you do for work and for fun?

Going for breakfast with the guys from the Box

Going to Bunsen with the guys from the Box

Drinking on the Boat with the guys from the Box

Watching youtube videos about Jason Blaha and telling the guys at the Box about Jason Blaha.

3> How did you find out about CrossFit?

I was watching highlights from the 2010 and 2011 crossfit games, and I wanted to be as peeled as the male competitors.

4> How long have you been a member at Perpetua?

Since January 2015.

5> Why do you do CrossFit?

It’s constantly varied and high intensity. I like that it’s never the same, and you get to work on being a more all-round athlete. I only started working on gymnastics and conditioning and rope climbs when I started doing crossfit. I also do it for the people, because they are my family and we look out for each other.

6> How often do you train?

I aim to train 5 times a week.

7>What are your fitness goals?

I want to be peeled, but also get stronger. I’d like to hit a 90kg snatch, a 110kg clean and jerk, and also get a muscle up (ring and bar).

8> What is your greatest achievement?

Ah there are so many. Probably beating a regionals athlete at handstand holds. But also my image being used for the Summer Comp 2017 posters in the Box. Also being a MoM is pretty epic considering I’ve been waiting for this moment since January 2015.

9> What or who motivates you?

The guys (‘the creeps’) at the box. They always push me, and tell me when I’m sandbagging. They always shout at you when you miss training, and we always compete against each other, so they motivate me to push hard. I also really like the 6:20am coaches (i’m sure the other ones are cool, but I have only and will only do 6:20 class) as they make sure you push yourself and I can always discuss technique with them. I’ve been doing a lot of strength training with Killian, we’ve been pairing up for strength sessions quite a lot, and I’ve definitely seen a lot of progressive overload since training with him.

My coach is Conor, and he’s also been using his thesis to help me with my squat.

My nutrionist is Spirit and he made me lose 15kg in 7 months.

10> What is your favourite and least favourite WOD or movement?

Favourite = Handstand holds and Double Unders. Least Favourite = Thrusters.

11> Would you recommend CrossFit to your friends and family? What advice would you give them starting out?

Definitely would recommend it. Start making friends as soon as possible and just talk to everyone. Be open to it and let the magic of Crossfit work through you.

12> Favourite cheat meal?

Bunsen burger, dominos pizza, Lousiana Chicken from Seven Wonders, Coco Pops and cold milk, Bulmers, Extremely Choclatey Biscuits from M&S

13> Favourite thing about Perpetua?

Chilling with my friends at the power station having a coffee and making jokes.

14> Bonus question: Most memorable or funniest moment at Perpetua?

Conor and Ryan making fun of my accent.

Anything else to add? (optional)
