1> Where are you from?
Sunny Durban in South Africa

2> When you’re not at Perpetua what do you do for work and for fun?
I am a Dental Hygienist for my day job and most of the time when I’m not at work I’m at Perpetua. In the limited play time that I have I enjoying finding new places in London to eat and socialise, I love anything creative and playful. I am a make-up artist and I also enjoy painting nails and creating nail art, some of the members may have noticed my patterned nails while training

3> How did you find out about CrossFit?
MARIO…eat, sleep, live CrossFit

4> How long have you been a member at Perpetua?
A year and a half

5> Why do you do CrossFit?
Mario makes me!! Only kidding. I got tired of the boring old gym so CrossFit allows me to be fit with the extra social environment

6> How often do you train?
4-5 times a week

7>What are your fitness goals?
I want to be able to do most if not every movement in CrossFit. I enjoy training for the fun of it and learning new skills, I’m a bit competitive and CrossFit secretly allows me to compete in every WOD.

8> What is your greatest achievement?
Hmmm I’d love to say I invented something or did something extraordinary, however I don’t think I have accomplished my greatest achievment yet

9> What or who motivates you?
In CrossFit: The other members, whenever I see someone killing a WOD I am like “whoohoo you go!” and then I want to be just like them. I watched from the sidelines for a long time thinking I could do this and eventually became a member. In everyday life: My Dad, he has always been there for me motivating me to do/try everything my heart desires and reach for my dreams.

10> What is your favourite and least favourite WOD or movement?
I am not very good at snatch and cleans so these are my worst movements, In terms of a WOD though I enjoy the longer more endurance based that are not too heavy.

11>Would you recommend CrossFit to your friends and family? What advice would you give them starting out?
YES!! Trust your body, don’t let the people lifting heavy around you intimidate you, you will get there. To be injury free and move well is key.

12>Favourite cheat meal?
Ben & Jerrys or Dip ‘n Flip!!

13> Favourite thing about Perpetua?
The community and the people are what keeps me here. I just love how everyone is so easy going and chatty.

14>Bonus question: Most memorable or funniest moment at Perpetua?
I think my first class was my most memorable, I was the only girl in the class and nervous as hell, I don’t remember the WOD but I was the last person working out at the end and all the guys gathered around me to cheer me on, in the moment I felt embarrassed but everyone high fived and fist pumped me at the end and then I felt so accomplished and welcomed.

1> Where are you from?
Cape Town, South Africa

2> When you’re not at Perpetua what do you do for work and for fun?
Management Consulting for work. For fun, I typically spend the weekend hanging out with my brother Paul (also a Perpetua member) on Hollywood Road.

3> How did you find out about CrossFit?
My brother kept on pestering me to come down to the box and just watch a session – he said I would “love it”. So I went down one day but then bumped into Ren – she had previously bullied me at the Virgin Active over a pair of kettlebells – so I delayed joining for a few months. However, my brother’s constant pestering eventually got the better of me.

4> How long have you been a member at Perpetua?
12 Months

5> Why do you do CrossFit?
I love the variety and intensity of each session, which can be adapted to everyone’s ability – the programming keeps things interesting and forces me to work on my weaknesses whilst building on my strengths. The coaches are incredibly supportive and encouraging. It’s also a great way to start the day with a group of awesome people – the 06:30am class rocks!

6> How often do you train?
4-5 times per week

7>What are your fitness goals?
Generally just be healthy and happy. A ring muscle up would be a bonus.

8> What is your greatest achievement?
My first bar muscle up in 16.3

9> What or who motivates you?
Endorphins are my recreational drug of choice.

10> What is your favourite and least favourite WOD or movement?
I love jumping on a box. Hate a thruster.

11>Would you recommend CrossFit to your friends and family? What advice would you give them starting out?
The training environment can’t be described. You have to experience it to understand. Just get down to the box and try one session – you will never look back. And, no matter how much anyone talks about CrossFit, I am 80-90% confident that it isn’t a cult (or a pyramid scheme).

12>Favourite cheat meal?
Pizza (for two)

13> Favourite thing about Perpetua?
The vibe

14>Bonus question: Most memorable or funniest moment at Perpetua?
The atmosphere of the Open on a Saturday
