Meet Paul one of our new apprentices

I Played a lot of different sports in my teens and early twenties including rugby, soccer, kickboxing and lifting weights. While I enjoyed all of them to a certain degree I always felt like they weren’t exactly what I was looking for.

3 years ago I heard about Crossfit Dublin from a few of my friends who were training in the Blackrock box. I went for a free introduction with Michael Price and was instantly hooked. Shortly after that I completed my first Crossfit benchmark workout (Fran) in Crossfit Waterford with a ridiculous time of around 13 minutes. Ever since then I have been training as often as possible, trying to become the best Crossfitter I can be.

I have been training with both the Crossfit Dublin and Crossfit Waterford gyms over the last number of years. I have been lucky enough to meet some great people in that time, both amongst the coaching staff and the members of the two gyms. The sense of community is unlike anything I ever experienced in any other sport I played. The constantly varied and high intensity nature of the workouts is why I a feel so passionate about Crossfit. The mixture of Strength, Fitness, Olympic Lifting and Gymnastics training has me in the best physical condition I’ve ever been in. I would be confident I could face any physical challenge anybody could throw at me. I feel like I have come a long a way since my first Crossfit workout and accomplished a lot of the goals I have set for myself but there is still much more I want to achieve in the future. I am still improving and learning all the time and that’s why I keep coming back for more.

By the time I finish college in May 2014, I will have spent 6 years studying a combination of Sports Therapy and Exercise Science courses. I have started the Crossfit Internship this summer as becoming a Crossfit coach is the career path I wish to pursue after I finish my studies. My plan is to immerse myself in the Blackrock and City Centre gyms as much as possible for the duration of my summer holidays and then resume the internship on a full time basis after I finish college. I am looking forward to learning as much as possible about health, nutrition, training and the business side of Crossfit from the coaching staff throughout the course of the internship. I am excited about the challenges that lie ahead and my goal is to become a successful Crossfit coach in the future.
