The missing link

To live unbroken we need all the links in the chain to connect.

As avid fitness enthusiasts we devote a lot of time to ‘recovery’. Spending our evenings meal prepping or RomWODing etc etc. One of the major areas of recovery and wellness, that is overlooked more often than not, is mental recovery. Now why the hell is that important?

Correct me if I am wrong, but a large percentage of you get up at stupid o’clock in the morning to battle with the London transport system on the way to a stressful day’s work that you might not even enjoy. Upon finishing your days work you get straight to the gym and get your fitness on (and righty so).

All this stress builds and builds. It ends up making us tired and run down. Make our brains slow and sluggish and, due to the brains (central nervous system) effect upon physical performance, makes our body’s sluggish too.

So what can you do to to let your brain recover?

If you are a goal driven, constantly busy person you could probably do with slowing down and taking some ‘me’ time. Immerse yourself in a good book, take a quiet walk, have a spa treatment, anything that shuts your brain off from the million and one things going on.

If the need to be mentally stimulated is what is making your brain tired. I.e. Boring job that doesn’t fulfil your creative brain, then get out and explore new places and things with the people that make you happy. Go on a hike or take up a new sport. Find an interest outside of work and the gym that requires you to be creative and challenges you.

Remember that your brain and body are one. If one isn’t functioning optimally the other can’t be either. To become the best version of yourself, you must look after both.
