Tips for the Open
Unless you’ve been living down a rabbit hole or under a rock for the past few months you’ll know the time is now….The CrossFit Open 2015.
Here are my 3 top tips to having a successful Open.
1. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself
This can be a big trap! By all means get nervous and excited by the release of the workouts (even stay up late to watch them – I am!). But don’t put so much pressure on yourself that it’s detrimental to your performance. It’s just like when training throughout the year – you’re going to have good days and not so good days. Trust me when I say there is going to be workouts that you like and work outs that you look at and a little part of you dies inside.
Dave Castro doesn’t have it in for you personally when he programs your weaknesses, he’s just an evil genius.
2. Have fun
Damn straight, you heard right – HAVE FUN! This is a chance for you to get amongst the other athletes at the box and show your support. This is the time that you need each other, try and speculate what next week’s workout is going to be, talk strategy and help each other up off the ground with a massive high five, or maybe a hug if it’s needed. The experience of going through the Open will bring us together, new athletes and the lifers.
3. Be proud of what you and your friends achieve
The CrossFit Open is there to see what you can achieve. It’s why we come in and chalk up, sweat, laugh and cry. This is a chance for you to not only be bricking it about the 5 weeks ahead, but also to reflect on where you’ve come from since you started your CrossFit journey. Did you have pull ups? Can you snatch your body weight? What about hitting those double unders?
Share your success with everyone and be proud of what you have achieved.
